An Adventure to the Comox Valley, BC, July 22, 2023 - Day 2 | Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens

Updated: Jul 23, 2023

After our invigorating early morning walk at Paradise Meadows, we eagerly set our sights on our next destination - the much-talked-about Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens. This hidden gem, nestled in the heart of Vancouver Island's Comox Valley and recommended by the Comox Valley Tourism Association, promised us tranquil and diverse landscapes, combining woodland charm with carefully curated gardens.

As we entered the gardens, we were greeted by a variety of plants, flowers, and towering trees that provided a sense of serenity throughout the year. The 'host' at the gardens was pleasant and offered us recommendations on which paths to take. However, as we ventured further into the gardens, we couldn't help but feel a hint of disappointment. The abundance of flowers and the wild, natural state that we had hoped for seemed to be lacking. Most of the paths appeared overgrown, requiring us to push through vegetation, which took away from the intended experience.

While the gardens had potential, we found ourselves underwhelmed and didn't quite view it as a top-notch destination spot. Perhaps visiting in the spring when the flowers are in full bloom might offer a more enchanting experience. One aspect we did appreciate, though, was the way driftwood art was blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings, adding a touch of creativity to the space.

PS - what looks like a pile of sticks in the top left-hand photo, is a GIANT ANT HILL. It had millions of ants on it. Incredible!

Overall, Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens had its charm, but it didn't quite live up to our expectations of a lush and well-maintained garden paradise. Nonetheless, we recognized that each season might offer a unique perspective, and the gardens still provided a peaceful escape for a leisurely stroll amidst nature's embrace.
