As the golden rays of the sun gently streamed into my living room on a crisp fall day, I found myself engrossed in a transformative watercolor painting session, delving into Module 3 of a watercolor course that centered around capturing the majestic beauty of mountains. This creative endeavor, amidst the serene atmosphere of a tranquil morning, not only enriched my artistic skills but also proved to be an unexpected sanctuary for my mental well-being. First project - Gradient Mount Sunset
The course itself was a revelation – a guided journey into the intricate techniques of portraying mountains using watercolors. From understanding the play of light and shadow on the rugged terrains to mastering the blending of colors to depict the distant peaks, every module felt like a step deeper into a world of artistry that I had been yearning to explore. I have to admit, I had to stop myself several times from ripping up the paper and starting again. Judging your work in the midst of your work is not a good idea so I decided to let it play out. And I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised.
However, what made this particular session profoundly special was the confluence of external elements that seamlessly merged with my creative pursuit. The ambiance was set by the cool, crisp air of a fall morning, with the sunlight dancing across the room, offering the perfect lighting for my artistic escapade. The warmth of the sun created an inviting space, providing the ideal conditions for creativity to flourish.
Second project - Mountain Climb (Please ignore the ripped paper, when I removed the tape, I was not as delicate as I should have been...oops)
Amidst the strokes of the brush, the careful selection of colors, and the attempt to recreate the grandeur of mountains on paper, I found myself immersed in a state of flow. The worries and stresses that often cluttered my mind seemed to dissipate, leaving space only for the joy of creation. This act of painting mountains, a task that might seem daunting to some, became a form of meditation. It required my undivided attention and allowed me to be present in the moment. The gradual progression of the mountainscape on my canvas mirrored the incremental peace and contentment settling within me.
Third project - Milkyway Peak (very challenging!)
Art, I realized, had become my haven – a therapeutic outlet that not only refined my skills but also acted as a form of self-care. It provided an avenue to express emotions, thoughts, and aspirations, allowing me to translate the beauty I perceived onto paper.
As the session concluded I felt a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that transcended the mere completion of a painting. This experience taught me the incredible therapeutic potential of creative pursuits and reaffirmed the importance of carving out time for activities that bring joy and mental reprieve.
