Documentary Premiere – July 23, 2025

There is a kind of stillness that lives in the presence of a Great Blue Heron.

Watching one move through the water — slow, deliberate, grounded — is like witnessing time stretch and the world hush.

What started as a photo walk through an urban estuary turned into something much deeper — something healing.

This week, I released my very first YouTube video — a short wildlife documentary called Urban Wildlife Chronicles: Great Blue Heron. It’s not just a film about a bird. It’s a story about connection, survival, and beginning again.

I’ll be honest: I almost didn’t make it.

I stalled on this project for months. Fear. Self-doubt. Perfectionism. I told myself I didn’t know enough about editing, filming, narration. That maybe I wasn't ready. But one day, something shifted. I thought: What am I doing? Why not just begin? Why not give myself permission to learn, to grow, to create something imperfect but real?

A friend once told me, “Everyone has to start somewhere.”

So I started here — with this bird, this lagoon, and this story.

The Great Blue Heron became more than a subject for me. It became a symbol of resilience, presence, and quiet strength. As I grieved the loss of my mom and my dogs, I found solace in nature. In the heron’s stillness. In its patient steps. In its ability to thrive even in human-altered landscapes.

This short film explores the heron's behavior, feeding, nesting, and the challenges it faces living so close to us. But it also shares a personal journey — one that I hope encourages others to not only look closer at urban wildlife, but to start creating whatever’s calling them.

And remember to like and subscribe!!

Whether you're here for the birds or the journey, I hope this film connects with you. I hope it encourages you to notice the wild around you — and to take that leap you’ve been holding back on.

This is just the beginning.

Protect the wild where you live. Notice. Respect. Share.

Beautiful. There is also a Great Blue Heron preserve on Vedder River in Chilliwack. Please post on Bluesky, as many of us have dumped Meta. Thank you for a great film.
