Kicking off my “Urban Wildlife Chronicles” challenge wasn’t easy this morning. The plan is to wake up super early for the next seven days to capture wildlife photos before work starts. Baylee, and I set out despite a rough night with no sleep and waking up with a pounding migraine. To be honest, I almost didn’t go. But the commitment to this challenge and my love for wildlife photography pushed me out the door.
The morning air was crisp, and the city was still quiet, which was both calming and invigorating. Baylee trotted beside me, her energy contrasting with my groggy state. As we walked along a familiar path, the first sign of wildlife appeared, instantly lifting my spirits. A beautiful peahen was strutting down the path toward us. She was remarkably calm and seemed to be posing, almost aware of her photogenic presence. Baylee, ever the good girl, stayed calm and curious, but didn't disturb our new feathered friend. This encounter felt like a gentle reminder of why I do this—connecting with nature in its most serene moments.
Continuing on, I spotted a female and male deer in the distance. They were perfectly camouflaged in the tall grass, barely noticeable unless you knew what to look for. The pair moved gracefully, unperturbed by our presence. We kept a respectful distance, ensuring not to startle them. Thankfully, my 600mm lens allowed me to capture these beautiful creatures in detail without getting too close.
The first day of my challenge turned out to be a success. Despite the initial struggle, the encounters with the peahen and the deer reaffirmed my dedication. This experience reminded me of the magic that lies in the quiet corners of our urban landscapes, waiting to be discovered by those who seek it. With Baylee by my side and my camera ready, I’m excited to see what the next six days will bring.
Stay tuned for more updates from my Urban Wildlife Chronicles!
