Embarking on a Watercolor Painting Adventure to Unleash My Creativity - Oct 22, 2023

I came across a watercolor painting class on Instagram by Kolbie Bloom so I decided after seeing it for the tenth time to sign up. I've also wanted to learn how to paint with watercolors but never found a teacher or class that worked, until now.

Her course is called "Watercolor Landscapes For Beginners!" Her website is

I must admit, I was initially skeptical, but my curiosity and open-mindedness led me to give it a try. So, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, with sunlight streaming into my living room, I arranged my coffee table with the necessary supplies and embarked on Module 1 - Night Skies. To my amazement, I was pleasantly surprised by how well my initial attempts turned out. After completing the first video, I even repeated the process without any guidance just to ensure I had truly grasped the lesson. The results clearly speak for themselves.

On the left is my first attempt (#1), the second is me trying it again (without guidance) and I in my opinion, it turned out pretty good.

Then I moved onto the next project using a different landscape and different colors. As you can see, my first attempt, not so great. But the second attempt...hello!!

And then the third attempt with the next project was to use a different color and different landscape. First attempt is a bit botched because the teacher wanted twinkling stars done in a cross formation in the sky and my hand was too heavy so I rubbed them out and covered over them. But the second attempt was much better. I just left the twinkling star out because I didn't like them.

And then I was feeling BOLD and BRAVE and decided to free style. You go on with your BAD-ASS SELF, JENNIFER!!

Art is a magical portal to creativity, a tranquil oasis for the mind, and an exquisite dance of pure joy. In those precious moments when you create just for the sheer pleasure of it, the world fades away, and your soul awakens. Whether it's a brushstroke on a canvas, a melody on an instrument, or a stroke on paper, art is your sanctuary to unleash creativity, find inner calm, and revel in the pure delight of creation - just because you can. So don't doubt, just DO!

PS - So far, I like Kolbie's style of teaching and I look forward to finishing the rest of the course to see what other masterpieces I can create! Check back to this blog often because I'll be reviewing and posting about my progress each week!
